Crown Shanghai Earns Top Score from Eco-Office Evaluation Program
Shanghai Roots & Shoots (R&S) is a program that was established in 1991 to educate youths about environmental issues and humanitarian values. One of their projects is the Eco-Office Evaluation Program, which links local high school and university students with companies to perform environmental audits. The group evaluates individual company’s policies and practices, and calculates its environmental impact.
Crown Shanghai was recently audited by the Eco-Office Evaluation Program and was very proud to report that they received the highest score among the 45 audits that were conducted in the last audit period. Based on a 100 point rating system, Crown Shanghai earned 91%, earning high points in categories such as resource consumption and environmental practices and policies. This was Shanghai’s first audit which made the 91% score an even greater achievement.

Dominica Darrington, client and community relationship manager, who manages Crown Shanghai’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in Shanghai, noted, “This program is another way of measuring and continually improving our environmental practices and policies, and developing concrete targets and strategies for positive change. Our office can also play a big role in educating our employees about sustainable environmental practices. Hopefully the green efforts made in our own office will trickle down to individual employee's households, influencing attitude and behaviors of their families, neighbors and friends, and their views about environmental issues in the long term.”
Earning this top score from the Eco-Office Evaluation Program provides Crown Shanghai with many benefits. In their efforts to maintain and improve their rating, they will continue to implement eco-friendly programs and identify ways to reduce their energy consumption, which has the added benefit of lowering their operating costs. In addition, by working with the Shanghai Roots & Shoots organization, the team will acquire useful knowledge on environmental protection and learn new ways to continually improve their environmental practices.
Since Shanghai Roots & Shoots started the program in Shanghai in 2006, they have audited over 120 companies. In the fall of 2008, they expanded the program to Beijing, where 12 companies were audited. In 2009, they will expand to other cities in China, as well as Seattle, Washington in the United States and New Delhi, India.
