Crown Fine Art - official shipping partner for Art14

March 10, 2014

Crown Fine Art was the official shipping partner for Art14, London’s global art fair. The fair debuted in Olympia’s Grand Hall in 2013 with almost 25,000 visitors, including 4,503 VIPs, attending the inaugural edition; and this year saw some significant growth with galleries from 38 different countries exhibiting. Works had been shipped from India, the US, Israel, Japan, the UAE, China, Korea, Brazil and Africa – underlining Art14’s desire to deliver a truly international vision of contemporary and modern art.

Crown Fine Art and its expert technicians played an integral part in ensuring the exhibits arrive safely, securely and on time; a huge undertaking given the scale of the event.

Kevin David, Head of Gallery Services at Crown Fine Art, said: “Preparations began at the end of last year and it is a big operation. We not only ship the pieces from abroad but work with galleries to ensure they come through customs safely – some of the 30-40 galleries we are working with have never exhibited in the UK before.

“We worked with other Crown Fine Arts offices, pulling on Crown’s network across the world to make it all happen, including collecting exhibits from airports and shipping ports, placing in storage ready for transport to the venue.”

“It was an exciting time because we were at the venue on Tuesday – as official shipping partner we got in a day before everyone else ,” added Kevin. “So it was a case of all hands on deck.”

Crown’s work didn’t finish when the art works arrived safely in London, however. Some galleries asked for help with installation and de-installation or required technical assistance during the event, which ran from Friday February 28 until Sunday March 2; and Crown Fine Art also managed the secure storage of art throughout the weekend on behalf of the fair.
