Two 40 foot sea containers were required to ship The Chestnut Tower by Korean artist, Jaehyo Lee, from Seoul to Dubai. Working with wood and metal, Jaehyo Lee produces immaculately formed and intricate sculptures that reveal the mastery of his materials.
Comprising of chestnut logs around a steel core, the impressive sculpture weighs more than 12 tonnes and is 15 metres long. On its arrival in Dubai, Crown Fine Art coordinated the technically challenging installation of this monumental work drawing upon the team’s local experience and technical expertise.
Working a year in advance and in collaboration with Emaar Properties, Art Dubai, Aramex and Al Futtaim in the region, Crown Fine Art planned the execution in minute detail, drafting method statements, traffic diversion plans, contracting cranes and lifting equipment.
The sculpture required innovative fixing techniques and unorthodox delivery methods, also in consideration of the challenging terrain and weather conditions for install in the height of desert summer.
Determined to see the project completed on schedule, despite weather conditions, Crown Fine Art ensured a smooth and coordinated installation working with the array of stakeholders and the artist to ensure visions for the work were realised.
